Morocco is seeking to expand its solar power capacity by increasing the number of regions hosting solar plants to ten, with investments exceeding 2 billion dirhams.
This goal is part of the “Noor Atlas Photovoltaic Solar Energy” program, which was recently supported by the creation of a new subsidiary, Noor Atlas Energy Company S.A., under the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN).
In March, the government approved the establishment of this company, which will manage, develop, and maintain a solar project consisting of six plants with a total capacity of 291 MW in five regions.
The initiative will boost Morocco’s renewable energy distribution and help meet its 2030 target of generating 6,000 MW of clean electricity, with renewable sources making up 52% of the energy mix.
The project’s funding includes loans from the German Reconstruction Bank and the European Investment Bank, as well as local credit institutions.
