Several Moroccan government websites were hit by a wave of cyberattacks late Saturday night, causing serious disruptions, in what experts describe as well-planned and highly organized.

The attacks knocked out the website of the Ministry in charge of relations with Parliament temporarily, while the websites of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Tax Directorate remain down.

According to cybersecurity experts, the attacks fall under the category of DDOS (Distributed Denial of Service), where hackers use thousands of devices to flood a site with traffic until it crashes.

Hassan Kharjouj, a specialist in digital security, explained that the goal of these attacks is to overload servers, making websites either painfully slow or completely inaccessible.

Some experts, including Kharjouj, have pointed fingers at Algeria, calling this a deliberate and dangerous move.

“This isn’t a random hack—it’s a carefully crafted attack,” he warned. He described the method used as a “Kill Chain” attack, where hackers first access sensitive data, then launch DDOS attacks to destabilize multiple targets at once.

Another cybersecurity expert, Tayeb El Hazzaz, confirmed that several Moroccan sites were attacked early Sunday, including those of the Ministries of Agriculture, Employment, and Parliament Affairs.

El Hazzaz added that he personally observed online hacker groups from the Maghreb region preparing these attacks, and claimed that Algeria is using “digital militias” to launch cyber warfare against Morocco.

The attacks have also raised concerns about the long-term visibility of Moroccan government websites on search engines like Google, especially if the downtime continues.

Experts say it’s important to have reliable backups and advanced servers ready to face such threats.

In a statement, the Ministry of Economic Inclusion and Small Business confirmed that their news-focused institutional site was targeted but said the information it hosts is public.

However, it remains unclear whether the current outage is from the earlier attack or a fresh one.

Experts are also warning that timing plays a big role—launching these attacks late at night, when technical teams are less likely to be on duty, seems to be part of a calculated strategy.
