Brazil cites possible cyberattack behind false mobile emergency alerts

Brazil’s Civil Defense said Saturday it had disabled its mobile phone emergency alert system after it suffered a possible cyberattack that resulted in false messages being sent overnight.

“The message sent was an Extreme Alert and contained the word ‘misanthropy,’ meaning hatred of humanity. It was probably a hacker attack,” the Civil Defense said in a statement.
