British Ambassador deems partnership between Morocco & UK as solid with promising prospects

Morocco and the United Kingdom are “important” partners to each other, mainly in trade and investment, the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, Simon Martin, said on Monday in Casablanca.

In a statement to MAP, on the sidelines of a gala dinner organized by the British Moroccan Society (BMS) and CasaExpats, Martin welcomed the continued strengthening of this partnership in recent years, expressing optimism about the promising prospects and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

“Our trade has doubled in recent years, and we expect this growth momentum to carry on. The number of tourists from the UK has also increased by 50% during the last year, which shows a growing interest in Morocco,” he said.

According to the diplomat, this cooperation is not limited to trade, but extends to strategic areas such as renewables, technology, agriculture, education and health, sectors in which the two countries are developing a number of joint initiatives.

The two Kingdoms also share promising prospects for the future, in light of the international sporting events they will be staging over the next few years, notably the 2030 Football World Cup, and Euro 2028, co-hosted by the UK and Ireland, he said, adding that these events offer a unique opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of sport, culture and the economy.

For her part, Mina Metioui, President of the British Moroccan Society – Morocco, underlined the importance of this event, which aims to raise funds for local initiatives, including those in favor of the Talatast school (High Atlas), noting that the BMS, founded almost 50 years ago, continues to play a key role in promoting the principles of solidarity, as was the case after the Al Haouz earthquake.

Mike Wood, Chairman of the British Moroccan Society – UK, emphasized the importance of partnerships between the two countries and their impact in sectors such as education, culture and investment. “We have a close relationship that transcends mere commercial ties, with a real focus on human links and education. These partnerships are crucial to building a prosperous common future,” he said.
