Heavy snowfall over the past 24 hours temporarily closed Regional Road No. 317, which connects Kalaa M’gouna and Azilal via the Oued Ouzighimt area, disrupting traffic and isolating several mountain villages.

Snowfall blanketed large sections of the road, halting traffic for hours overnight and creating significant challenges for drivers and residents, particularly in villages along the route, such as Ouzighimt.

Authorities responded swiftly, deploying specialized teams and heavy equipment to clear the snow. Efforts continued through the night, with the road reopening early Monday morning to restore normal traffic flow.

The Provincial Vigilance Committee, working under the supervision of Tinghir Province Governor, stationed heavy machinery throughout the region to prepare for further snow or potential road closures. A spokesperson confirmed that activities such as shopping and administrative errands had resumed as usual.

In a proactive move, regional authorities monitored snow-clearing operations and coordinated efforts among various agencies to ensure a rapid response. Officials stressed the importance of these measures to safeguard residents and maintain transportation in snow-prone areas.

The response involved a collaborative effort by the Regional Directorate of Equipment, local municipalities, and the Oases Municipal Group, with additional support from private contractors. The teams focused on clearing both primary and secondary roads affected by the snowfall.

Residents of Ouzighimt, part of the Ighil N’Mgoun municipality, commended the swift and efficient response, calling it a model for coordination among local authorities during harsh weather. The intervention reflects a commitment to public safety and preventing the isolation of affected mountain communities, they said.
