Morocco’s national team coach, Walid Regragui, is set to announce an expanded squad list for the upcoming training camp ahead of matches against Niger and Tanzania. These games are part of the fifth and sixth rounds of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to informed sources, Regragui is likely to include Omar Hilali, a standout defender from Espanyol Barcelona, in the preliminary squad. Despite strong competition in the right-back position from players like Achraf Hakimi and Noussair Mazraoui, Hilali’s consistent performances in La Liga this season have significantly boosted his chances of being called up.
The squad is also expected to see the return of Chadi Riad, a Crystal Palace defender, following his recovery from a recent injury. A medical report from Christophe Dullot, the national team’s French doctor, confirmed Riad’s readiness to return. The report also provided updates on the fitness of Amine Adli, a forward for Bayer Leverkusen, and Sofiane Diop, who plays for OGC Nice.
Morocco currently leads Group E in the qualifiers, with nine points secured from impressive victories against Tanzania, Congo-Brazzaville, and Zambia. The Atlas Lions are aiming for direct qualification to the 2026 World Cup.
The final list of players selected for these crucial matches is expected to be announced in the coming days.
