The Court of First Instance in Souk Sebt Ouled Nemma, located in the Fquih Ben Saleh province, has sentenced three activists from the local branch of the Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) to six months in prison, suspended, and a fine of 3,000 dirhams each.
The court also ordered the three activists to pay a joint civil compensation of 50,000 dirhams to the former Royal Gendarmerie commander, rejecting all defense requests related to the case.
The three activists were charged by the public prosecution with insulting a public official during or due to the performance of his duties, under Article 263 of the Penal Code.
The charges stemmed from their involvement in a protest organized by the local AMDH branch.
In a statement, the AMDH’s local branch in Souk Sebt Ouled Nemma condemned the verdict, describing the prosecution as an act of “revenge” aimed at silencing activists who expose sensitive issues, while attempting to undermine human rights work and tarnish the reputation of those demanding justice and transparency in legal matters.
