Court postpones trial of influencer ‘Houyam Star’ over child abuse allegations
Monday 23 December 2024 - 19:52

The Ain Sebaa Criminal Court in Casablanca has postponed the trial of social media influencer Aisha S., widely known as “Hiyam Star,” and her husband to Wednesday, following a defense team request for additional time to prepare.

The defense’s motion was submitted after a new lawyer joined the case and sought time to review the documents.

During Monday’s hearing, the fathers of the influencer’s children from previous marriages were admitted as civil plaintiffs. They claim their children suffered abuse under her care, according to court documents.

Deputy Prosecutor Jamal Lahroure has charged Aisha with offenses including child abuse, defamation, public indecency, and being a harmful role model.

The charges were filed following an extended investigation during her police custody, prompted by complaints from human rights organizations.

Authorities detained Aisha S. after multiple complaints alleged she appeared on social media wearing inappropriate clothing, verbally and physically abusing her children, blaspheming, and openly converting to Christianity after renouncing Islam.

The judicial police referred her to the prosecutor, who conducted further investigations before sending her and her husband to trial while under detention.

The case has sparked public outcry and reignited debates over child protection and freedom of expression in Morocco.
