On the basis of precise information provided by the National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGST) services, members of the Marrakech police prefecture arrested on Monday evening a French national of Algerian origin who was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities, according to a security source.
The suspect, aged 38, was apprehended in the Chrifia area (Marrakech), the source added, noting that a data matching operation conducted by the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) revealed that the individual was subject to an international Red Notice issued at the request of the national central bureau in Paris, for his alleged involvement in a criminal network engaged in money laundering.
The suspect was placed in police custody, pending his referral to the public prosecutor’s office, the same source stated. Morocco’s national central office “Interpol Office in Rabat”, affiliated with the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), was commissioned to notify its French counterpart of this arrest under the extradition procedure.
This arrest is part of strengthening ties of international security cooperation, as well as Moroccan security services’ efforts to track down persons wanted internationally for cross-border crimes.
