Morocco reaffirmed its “steady and permanent” support for the United Arab Emirates’ sovereignty over the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa islands on Wednesday in New York.
In a statement before the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, Morocco’s permanent representative to the UN, Omar Hilale, said, “I would like to reiterate the Kingdom of Morocco’s steadfast and permanent support for the territorial integrity of the United Arab Emirates and its enduring sovereignty over the Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa.”
The ambassador also emphasized that Morocco supports “the request made by this brotherly country to end Iran’s occupation of these three Emirati islands, as well as its position advocating for a solution either through direct negotiations or by referring the matter to the International Court of Justice.”
Iran has once again renewed its hostile stance towards Morocco’s territorial integrity, declaring its full alignment with supporters of separatism in North Africa.
In her speech before the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday, the Iranian representative stated that her country supports “the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination.”
