Morocco’s Ministry of Transport and Logistics unveiled plans to explore a railway connection between Agadir and Laayoune as Morocco seeks to create greater connectivity with its southern provinces.
A feasibility study will determine the route, cost, and technical considerations for building this new railway line.
Experts anticipate significant benefits for the region including improved connectivity expected to foster investment, create jobs, and ultimately improve living standards for residents.
The railway will further strengthen economic and institutional ties between Laayoune and other Moroccan regions, and reinforce the city’s strategic position as a gateway to Africa and the Sahel region.
This initiative aligns with Morocco’s broader development plan for the southern provinces, which includes projects like the Tiznit-Dakhla expressway and the Atlantic port project.
