A recent study by Morocco’s High Commission for Planning, based on a 2022 national survey on household living standards, reveals that while the practice of celebrating Eid al-Adha remains prevalent, a notable increase has been observed in the number of families that do not partake in the ritual.
The study, published in the 30th edition of the “High Commission’s Highlights” and obtained by Hespress, indicates that 12.6% of Moroccan households did not observe Eid al-Adha in 2022, a significant rise from 4.7% in 2014.
This trend is particularly evident among urban residents and single-person households. The study found that 14.3% of urban households did not celebrate Eid al-Adha, compared to 8.7% in rural areas. In 2014, the corresponding figures were 5.9% and 2.5%, respectively.
The study also reveals that a staggering 56.4% of single-person households did not perform the sacrifice ritual in 2022, compared to 46.5% in 2014. This number declines significantly for larger households, with only 5.5% of households with six or more members not celebrating the holiday in 2022, compared to 0.8% in 2014.
If someone does not have enough money to sacrifice a sheep, there is no blame on them. Not sacrificing a sheep does not mean you did not participate or celebrate Eid al-Adha. This article makes it sound like people are leaving Islam والعياذ بالله
