Essaouira’s Gnaoua and World Music Festival, in collaboration with Berklee College of Music, is launching a new Berklee on the Road program.
Aimed at actively performing musicians “seeking to advance their skills as improvisers,” the program welcomes individuals with diverse musical backgrounds, a press release from festival organizers A3Communication announced.
“I am thrilled as always to meet talented young musical artists from across the globe. Being part of a festival that celebrates Gnaoua and world musicians makes this program a very special experience,” Berklee Vice President and Executive Director Ron Savage said.
Participants will engage in daily sessions, exploring topics such as “The Improviser As Composer” and “Styles, Grooves, and Accompaniment Labs.”
The program also offers special lectures on the fusion of Gnaoua music with contemporary genres, music technology, and music business.
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply online by May 24, 2024, with tuition set at USD420. All participants will receive complimentary passes to the main stage performances at the 2024 Gnaoua and World Music Festival.
