National Independants Rally (RNI) member Fatiha El Moudni has been elected to be the new Mayor of Rabat, succeeding Asmae Rhlalou, who resigned after months of controversy.
After a consensus between the 3 majority parties on the Rabat council, namely the RNI, the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) and the Istiqlal party (PI), Fatiha El Moudni, obtained 66 votes out of 81.
Following confirmation of the Mayor’s candidacy, work focused on the election of the new Board, which will comprise nine members from majority political groupings, namely the RNI, PAM, PI, as well as one member from the opposition.
Approved by 56 elected members and rejected by 7, in addition to 9 abstentions and 5 absences, the new board reflects the political balance sought by councilors, with each majority party represented by three members.
The RNI, as president of the Council, will be represented by Hicham Akemhi, Amine Sadak and Hassania El-Ghayech. The PAM will be represented by Aziz Loumayni, Bachir Taqi and Leila Bilgha.
The PI will be represented by Abdessalam Bakari, Rahma El Ouazzani and Amina Sbai. The final member is Badr Tnacheri Ouazzani of the Union Socialiste des Forces Populaires (USFP).
The new Council President was rejected by 7 elected members, while 3 others abstained and 5 were absent and therefore did not take part in the vote, according to Hespress FR.
