Morocco and Switzerland reiterated, on Tuesday in Bern, their firm commitment to deepening migration cooperation to serve the mutual interests of both countries.

This confirmation came during the 2nd meeting of the Permanent Joint Migration Group, chaired by Khalid Zerouali, Wali, Director of Migration and Border Surveillance at the Ministry of the Interior, and Christine Schraner Burgener, Swiss State Secretary for Migration.

The meeting, which took place in the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to Switzerland, Lahcen Azoulay, reflects the vitality characterizing cooperation ties between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation, which included officials and executives from various relevant sectors, highlighted the positive results delivered by the National Immigration and Asylum Strategy, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which has helped regularize the situation of a large number of immigrants and integrate them into the fabric of Moroccan society, making them a factor of enrichment and diversity.

Stressing the need to combine the security and development approaches, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the Kingdom’s tireless efforts to combat illegal migration and dismantle human trafficking networks, to ensure that human flows serve the interests of both host countries and countries of origin.

For her part, the Swiss official, who was accompanied by a large delegation of experts and executives from the relevant sectors, emphasized the central role played by Morocco, owing to its geographical location, in the management of migratory flows, highlighting the positive steps taken by the two countries since the first meeting held in Rabat.

She also praised Morocco’s immigration policy and the successes achieved by the Rabat process, which has set in motion an important dynamic of dialogue, expressing her country’s support for the Kingdom’s policy of effective management of migratory flows.

In the same vein, the two sides praised the positive role played by the Moroccan community in Switzerland and agreed to pursue joint action on migration issues.

The first meeting of the Permanent joint migration group, which took place on September 5 in Rabat, culminated in the development of concrete initiatives dealing with the various areas of migration using a global approach.
