Head of government, Aziz Akhannouch declared the beginning of direct social support payments for eligible families this week.
Akhannouch noted that the electronic support portal received over 1.9 million benefit requests since its launch in early December, with the numbers continuing to grow daily.
Starting December 28, around one million families fulfilling the registry threshold – approximately 3.5 million Moroccans – will receive the first payment, a minimum of 500 dirhams per family, irrespective of size. Families submitting applications before December 10 and having processed files will receive December payments. Others applying later will receive payments for December and January at the end of next month.
During the government council meeting, Akhannouch highlighted the ongoing opportunity for eligible families to apply for future direct social support.
He emphasized 2023 as pivotal for completing “Social State” initiatives, ensuring the sustainability of financial resources. This includes compulsory sickness insurance, direct support for impoverished or vulnerable families, and aid for primary residence purchases.
Regarding education reform, Akhannouch stressed empowering educators, resulting in the historical agreement of a net 1,500 dirhams per month wage increase, costing the state over 10 billion dirhams annually.
Reflecting on the 2023 earthquake, Akhannouch credited the government’s ability to transform challenges into development opportunities in affected regions, attributing success to King Mohammed VI’s leadership. He highlighted Morocco’s swift recovery and international acknowledgment of its resilience.
Concluding the final meeting of 2023, Akhannouch extended New Year wishes, expressing hopes for further progress, stability, prosperity, and development for Morocco.
