Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani reiterated, on Friday, his country’s support for Morocco’s position in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The Kingdom of Bahrain has always expressed its solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco and supported its position in defending its sovereignty, rights, territorial integrity, the security of its citizens as well as its vital interests,” Al-Zayani told MAP on the sidelines of his participation in the Ministerial Conference in Support of Autonomy Initiative under Morocco’s Sovereignty, held virtually at the invitation of the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America.

The opening of a consulate in Laayoune, upon decision of King Hamad Ben Issa Al Khalifa, ” is a concrete example of Bahrain’s position in support of the Kingdom of Morocco,” he said. It is “a historic step that confirms the support of Bahrain and its solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco,” Al-Zayani added.

He also expressed his appreciation for “the active diplomatic efforts” made by Morocco to strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation with various countries around the world.

The Minister also highlighted that the Autonomy Initiative represents a new opportunity for a lasting resolution of the Moroccan Sahara issue, welcoming the growing Arab, regional and international support it has received.

He also expressed Bahrain’s hope that other parties join this movement towards development, peace and prosperity in the Moroccan Sahara and beyond, which brings about a permanent settlement to the conflict and opening a new chapter of peace and stability for the entire region.

The minister lauded the close brotherly relations between Bahrain and Morocco under the leadership of the two Sovereigns, who have always been keen to further strengthen these ties across all fields.

The two brotherly countries “will continue on the same path of strengthening their close cooperation under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad Ben Issa Al-Khalifa, and his brother His Majesty King Mohammed VI, and thanks to the efforts of the governments of both countries in the interest of the two brotherly peoples,” he concluded.
