In his address to the nation on the 48th anniversary of the Green March, King Mohammed VI emphasized the Kingdom’s unwavering commitment to development, modernization, and nation-building.
His focus is on both uplifting Moroccan citizens and harnessing the abundant talents within the Moroccan Sahara.
“Many countries have recognized that the Sahara is Moroccan, and many other influential nations have said that the Autonomy Initiative is the only solution for the settlement of this artificial regional dispute.”
“The values of solidarity, cooperation and openness, which characterize Morocco, have also contributed to strengthening our country’s role as well its status as a key player and as a reliable, credible economic and political partner at the regional and international levels, particularly with Arab and African sister nations.”
King Mohammed VI underscored the significance of reclaiming the southern provinces, which has not only bolstered the Atlantic dimension of the Kingdom but has also fortified Morocco’s diplomatic standing, garnering increased international support for territorial integrity while countering the stratagems of both overt and covert adversaries.
“Just as the Mediterranean links Morocco to Europe, the Atlantic coast is our gateway to Africa and the Americas.”
Furthermore, the King affirmed a commitment to enhancing the coastal areas, particularly the Atlantic interface of the Moroccan Sahara, with an overarching goal of transforming it into a hub for human interaction, economic integration, and global visibility.
The monarch expressed a strong dedication to completing major projects in the southern regions, offering essential services, and building the necessary infrastructure for human and economic development. These efforts also include fostering connectivity along the Atlantic coast and contemplating the formation of a competitive national commercial marine fleet.
Recognizing the economic progress and urban expansion in Moroccan Sahara cities, King Mohammed VI highlighted the imperative of establishing a maritime economy that contributes to the region’s development, benefiting its populace. This entails developing marine resource exploration, investing in marine fishing and seawater desalination, thereby supporting agricultural activities, promoting the blue economy, and advancing renewable energy solutions.
