Head of government Aziz Akhannouch launched on Monday evening the direct social support program.
In a joint session at the House of Representatives, attended by members of the House of Representatives and Advisors, the head of government officially initiated the direct social support program. The program’s objective is to provide direct financial assistance to millions of families facing poverty or vulnerability, beginning at the end of the 2023.
Akhannouch highlighted the government’s dedication to the success of this initiative, which aims to offer practical solutions to complex problems faced by families, particularly the most vulnerable.
He also noted how the pandemic and its consequences exposed the gaps in social protection, making it even more challenging to reach and support those in need.
Akhannouch then provided an overview of the financial aspects of the direct monthly support program. Families not currently covered by social security systems but meeting specific criteria will benefit from three primary measures. The first measure entails monthly grants for children under 21, with varying amounts depending on the child’s age. Families with more than three children will receive additional support.
The second measure involves a monthly lump sum grant for families without children or with members aged over 21, especially those supporting elderly individuals. The third measure consists of a “birth grant” provided to families on the occasion of the first and second births.
Akhannouch concluded by expressing the government’s commitment to engaging with unions, social groups, and political parties to ensure that the program effectively serves the best interests of Moroccan families. This inclusive approach is aimed at facilitating discussions, gathering opinions, and improving the services available to citizens.
