Healthcare workers in Morocco have chosen to wear black armbands and hold demonstrations outside hospitals nationwide to express their support for Palestinians and denounce Israeli violence against Gaza’s civilian population.
In a statement, the Independent Union of Public Sector Doctors in Morocco has called on all doctors to wear black armbands until the Israeli aggression on Gaza comes to an end.
The union strongly denounced all violations targeting civilians, which it considers inhumane and unethical.
The union said that the targeting of hospitals and healthcare workers is a grave breach of ethical boundaries and results in loss of lives without restraint.
The union particularly condemned the bombing of the Al-Muhaddani Hospital as a symbol of brutality that lacks any moral compass.
In a situation marked by severe imbalances in Palestine where military prowess is facing civilians, the union emphasized the plight of innocent civilians, including women, children, the elderly, and the displaced, who are living in constant fear with no safe havens, not even places of worship, schools, or hospitals.
The “Moroccan Coordination for Doctors for Palestine” joined the chorus by calling on all healthcare professionals in Morocco to wear black armbands and organize protests at all hospitals in solidarity with the healthcare teams and facilities in Gaza, which have been targeted in ongoing massacres.
The coordination strongly condemned the systematic targeting of healthcare institutions, healthcare workers, emergency teams, and innocent civilians by the Israeli army.
The coordination expressed their support for the resilience of healthcare workers in Gaza, who continue to carry out their noble humanitarian mission despite the relentless bombing and destruction.
The coordination further said that the dire state of the healthcare sector in Gaza, facing a serious threat of shutting down, could lead to a genuine public health disaster.
The coordination urged the World Health Organization and all humanitarian and human rights organizations to intervene urgently to prevent this humanitarian catastrophe.
The coordination said that the actions of the Zionist entity flagrantly violate international conventions and human rights, amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The coordination highlighted the systematic nature of the mass killings of civilians, forced displacements, deliberate attacks on hospitals, healthcare professionals, and the intentional killing of patients and the wounded, along with a comprehensive siege that deprives the Gaza Strip of basic necessities such as water, medicine, food, and electricity.
