An NGO in Morocco started a growing movement that has gotten 19.358 of the 25.000 votes it wanted to demand action to rescue the lives of neglected and abused donkeys, mules, and horses across the nation.
Susan Machin, founder of Jarjeer Mule and Donkey Trust/Refuge launched the petition on Change organization, the world’s largest petition platform.
The petition, which was started by concerned citizens and is supported by animal welfare organizations, aims to increase awareness of the continuous cruelty of these animals and to persuade the government to take appropriate action.
It draws attention to the upsetting circumstances that donkeys, mules, and horses are subjected to, such as overwork, hunger, physical abuse, and abandonment.
The petition requests the Moroccan government to set aside funds and create thorough rules to protect these creatures’ welfare in addition to drawing attention to their situation.
It promotes passing legislation to protect animals, enforcing rules to guarantee that they are treated fairly at work, and giving support and resources to groups that fight to improve the well-being of animals.
The Refuge’s owners, Susan Machin, and Charles Hantom, built the reputedly well-kept animal shelter on their property in Marrakech with early plans for a tourism endeavor. Due to urgent demands, they chose to rent the site to the nonprofit.
Due to the land being changed and utilized for purposes other than what it was intended for, they are now having issues with Moroccan authorities. As a result, the local Caid (a public official) is requesting that the building of a stable on the land be stopped right now.
“We now call on the King of Morocco and the Minister of the Interior to revoke this order and allow us to continue to provide shelter, care, and medical treatment for distressed animals. Immediate action is necessary as we are continually asked by other organizations and local authorities to take animals,” said the shelter’s founders.
