Seedstars Capital and Fondation Botnar join forces to launch $20 million investment initiative for African startups
Monday 19 June 2023 - 15:40

Seedstars Capital and Fondation Botnar have jointly announced the launch of Seedstars Youth Wellbeing Ventures, a $20 million investment initiative aimed at supporting early-stage startups in Africa, including in Morocco.

This investment mandate aims to enhance the wellbeing of individuals under the age of 30 in low-and-middle-income countries. This evergreen fund will provide financial backing to startups at the pre-seed to Series A stages.

The selected startups will be those actively contributing to sectors such as healthcare services, environmental sustainability, ecological resilience (including access to clean energy), local food security, water and sanitation, waste management, and safe and sustainable transportation.

Seedstars will initially invest $250,000 in selected startups and will continue to support their growth with follow-on investments of up to $750,000. Over the course of the next five years, the plan is to invest in a minimum of seven startups annually.

This joint initiative between Seedstars Capital and Fondation Botnar seeks to nurture and empower innovative startups across Tanzania, Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, and Egypt, enabling them to address critical challenges and positively impact the lives of young people in these regions.
