Leading with Morocco becoming the top investor in West Africa, head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, delivered a recorded speech at the opening of the “Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Africa Gateway.” He highlighted Morocco’s efforts over the past two decades to enhance trade exchanges with African countries.

Morocco has become the leading African investor in West Africa and the second-largest on the continent as a whole. The Prime Minister added, “Africa needs to trust itself because it is rich in immense natural resources and is characterized by a young, talented, and qualified population.”

“Today, the African continent is aware of its new roles and is not hesitant to highlight its multiple advantages to achieve the positioning it deserves in global value chains.”

Akhannouch highlighted that Africa has experienced the emergence of a massive free trade zone, marking a departure from protectionist policies, and becoming one of the largest in the world.

During his address, Akhannouch clarified that due to a significant boost from King Mohammed VI, the Kingdom has successfully positioned itself as a key player in its region.

“In addition to this, we have implemented bold and deep reforms in our institutions to strengthen our democracy and achieve a state based on justice and the rule of law.”

The head of government also highlighted Morocco’s success in “building a diverse and strong economy supported by sectoral strategies, forward-looking vision, world-class infrastructure, and efficient industries.”

He pointed out that the financial sector, agriculture, as well as industries such as automotive, aviation, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, are now considered benchmark sectors worldwide.

Akhannouch emphasized that Morocco has positioned itself as a key player in the future energy transition. Morocco is currently ranked as the largest producer of renewable energy in Africa.

He also emphasized that throughout its long history, Morocco has played the role of a bridge.”I can say it is the gateway between Africa and Europe. Establishing sustainable and reliable partnerships is an ingrained characteristic of the Moroccan Kingdom’s identity.” he said.

It is noteworthy that the “Bloomberg New Economy Forum, Africa Gateway” is jointly organized by Bloomberg and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development.

The forum unites 200 influential figures from the economic and political arenas, representing diverse nations across the globe, fostering an exchange of ideas regarding pressing challenges and making contributions to the sustainable development of Africa.
