The 28th International Publishing and Book Fair (SIEL-2023) came to an end in Rabat, after ten days of exciting events, record-breaking numbers, and engaging literary dialogue.
With over 1230 cultural events, of which 308 were directly organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication or in collaboration with academic and governmental institutions interested in books, reading, and related topics, this edition’s cultural program broke all previous records for the fair.
The ministry celebrated and bestowed honorary titles on writers, thinkers, scholars, and poets who had won the highest literary and intellectual prizes in regional, national, and worldwide competitions at the event.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Morocco and Canada, which have been strengthened by the Moroccan diaspora’s active and constructive participation in the various facets of cultural, economic, and scientific aspects of the friendly country, Quebec, Canada, was invited as a special guest to Rabat’s SIEL.
Similar to the previous year, the book fair featured a space that showcased Moroccan culture with a program that comprised more than 600 workshops, as well as an informative and amusing section dedicated to kids.
80 national and international media organizations coved the 10-day-long event, while the number of attendees, including children, teenagers, and seniors, reached 240,000 by the end of SIEL-2023.
Besides the participation of several national and international cultural actors, this edition was marked by a special surprise visit of the Atlas Lions, who attended the presentation of a study titled “The Encyclopedia of Moroccan Football Players: For a sustainable mechanism to follow Moroccan talents in football around the world.”
