The High Authority for Audiovisual Communication (HACA) has published a manual developed by Amina Lemrini El Ouahabi, international expert in women’s rights, “for media free of sexist stereotypes”.
The extensive document compiles a corpus of methodological, practical, and referential resources geared for media workers.
Additionally, it will serve as a medium that will probably aid readers in better recognizing, dismantling, and halting the spread of gender-based stereotypes, explained HACA.
The manual consists of a conceptual and methodological part and a very practical part structured around six thematic booklets.
The presentation of the gender concept and the didactic presentation of the legal and regulatory provisions linked to the struggle against gender stereotypes in and through the media are both included in the conceptual and methodological section.
The six booklets enable empirical comprehension of the gender factor in various media story categories as well as at the level of press business governance, said HACA.
The treatment of violence against women, media coverage of elections, the treatment of the migration crisis, as well as gender-sensitive advertising and film creation, are some of the subjects that are relevant to both informational material and entertainment programming.
