Cathay Pacific, the flag carrier airline of Hong Kong, has fired three flight attendants after they were accused of mocking passengers’ English. The incident occurred on a flight from Chengdu, China to Hong Kong on Sunday.
A passenger on the flight recorded a voice clip of the flight attendants making fun of Chinese passengers who asked for a blanket but used the word “carpet” instead.
In the clip, one of the flight attendants can be heard saying, “If you cannot say blanket in English, you cannot have it.”
Cathay Pacific CEO Ronald Lam apologized for the incident and said the airline has “zero tolerance” for discrimination.
