Morocco is increasingly open to sports tourism through the organization of major continental and international sporting events, said, Tuesday at the House of Councilors, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
Responding to a question on “the national tourism policy” during the monthly session of oral questions, Akhannouch affirmed that the sports and logistic infrastructures at the Kingdom’s disposal, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, constitute a model to be followed at continental level, stressing that Morocco regularly organizes, within the framework of the high request with which the King surrounds sports and sportsmen, a number of major continental and international sporting events.
These various events, the latest of which was the Club World Cup organized in the cities of Rabat and Tangier, were crowned by “an unprecedented success in terms of organization, in addition to a record attendance of public, making our country benefit from the confidence of sports federations at the continental and international level.”
After welcoming the announcement by the King, in his message addressed to the participants of the ceremony of the “Excellence” award of the African Football Confederation, of Morocco’s bid jointly with Spain and Portugal for the organization of the 2030 Football World Cup, the Head of Government assured that this tripartite bid bears the title of link between Africa and Europe, augurs a new horizon in the strategic partnership, consecrates a new generation of cooperation and partnerships and translates the unification of efforts and capacities of the African and European continents.
The tripartite bid will also be, as the King’s message states, “a bid to bring together the best of both sides, and the demonstration of an alliance of genius, creativity, experience and means”, recalled Akhannouch, pointing out that the Government with all its components “is committed to adhere to this process initiated by the King, convinced of the great importance of sport as a gateway for the realization of development, fertile ground for investment and a mechanism for promoting the Kingdom as a tourist destination”.
Akhannouch underlined the government’s willingness to pursue the work of developing sports infrastructures at all levels, in order to strengthen Morocco’s chances of organizing various events at continental and international level.
