A British man, previously sentenced to three months will now be jailed for 10 years in Morocco for the possession and distribution of counterfeit money while he was on holiday, after a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Marrakech.
Previously detained in November 2022, Oliver Andrews is now facing 10 years of prison after a hearing that took place on April 11, as read on BBC.
Andrews was in Marrakech with a friend on holidays when his arrest happened, and now the two will serve the sentence, with no additional details on the ‘friend’.
Alanna Cornick, Andrews’ partner, said they will file an appeal and that what transpired was the “worst possible outcome.”
Andrews previously denied knowing about the counterfeit money and explained how he only found out when the police arrested him.
He used the money to pay for a drink.
When his initial three-month sentence was pronounced, his family expressed their concern about the conditions under which he is being held because he was diagnosed with a cardiac problem in 2021 and requires daily medication.
