In a heartwarming story of survival and reunion, a baby who spent 128 hours trapped in the rubble of Turkey’s devastating earthquake in February has been reunited with her mother, who was previously thought to have died.
Vetin Begdas, just three and a half months old, was rescued from a damaged building in the province of Hatay after being trapped for over five days. She was given the name Gizem, which means “Mystery,” by the medical authorities who cared for her after her rescue.
Vetin was finally reunited with her mother Yasemin Begdas, on Saturday, 54 days after the earthquake. Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services confirmed the emotional reunion, which took place after their relationship was proven through a DNA test.
