National coach Walid Regragui announced he supports Achraf Hakimi, the right-back of the French club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), in the difficult period he is going through, after he was accused of rape in France.
Regragui said in a press conference held today: “I spoke with Hakimi by phone after this allegation. We support him in his ordeal, and so do all Moroccans.”
“As for the player Yahya Jabrane, I was not very convinced of his level, so I did not invite him to this preparatory gathering, and this is a message to him to work more, because he is not the Gibran that I know, although he presented a good level in the last match, but I had settled the matter,” said the head manager.
“With regard to the two brothers, Ryan Mmaee and Sami, I have no problem with them. They were not with us in the last World Cup for technical choices.”
And about not summoning Brahim Diaz, the Italian Milan player, Regragui said: “We did not talk from the beginning about his case. You know that I am clear. I traveled to Milan in order to see him and talk to him.”
“Diaz is a player with two nationalities, we had a frank dialogue, we are not in a discussion, whoever wants to come to the national team is welcome, and we do not have to pressure the players, there are many dual nationals who have to choose, there are those who do it quickly, and there are those who take Its time, and you should know that the list includes only names that decided to choose Morocco and defend it.”
Regragui concluded, “Diaz is not with us today. I do not know what his choice would be. If he chooses Spain, that is his right. The page has not yet been turned on my part. The important thing is that I am not wasting my time. He is a young man who loves Morocco, and we will respect his choice.”
