Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed the reasons for the failure of Sofyan Amrabat’s deal from Fiorentina to Barcelona during the last hours of the winter transfer window.
Romano wrote on his official account on Twitter: “Chelsea saw Sofyan Amrabat as an option on the last day of the Mercato before signing Enzo Fernandez.”
There were direct contacts already, but Fiorentina were never open to letting him go on loan, he said.
Romano believes many big clubs will continue to follow the Moroccan midfielder in the future.
Amrabat, 26, was close to leaving the “viola” in the last winter “Mercato” towards FC Barcelona, in addition to the desire of the “Blues” to sign him, before the negotiations failed and now he continues the journey with his club.
Press reports confirmed that Fiorentina rejected Barcelona and Chelsea offers to borrow the Atlas Lions midfielder, which may change the atmosphere significantly in the upcoming summer transfer period.
Amrabat joined Fiorentina from Hellas Verona in 2020, under a contract that extends until the summer of 2024. He was also one of the stars of the Moroccan national team in the last edition of the Qatar World Cup 2022.
