The Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), António Vitorino, hailed, Friday in Geneva, the constant involvement of Morocco in favor of the social protection of migrants.

Responding to the Kingdom’s intervention at the 113th session of the IOM Council (November 28-December 2), Vitorino praised Morocco’s constant involvement “in favor of migrants, expressed especially through its proactive policy in favor of the social protection of migrants and their integration into all policies carried out at the national level”.

He welcomed the success of the first regional consultations and the holding, in March 2022 in Rabat, of the meeting of the champions of the Marrakesh Pact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration.

“IOM is counting on Morocco to successfully carry out the regional consultations leading up to the next Global Forum on Migration, scheduled for 2024,” he added.

Speaking at the work of the IOM Council, Vitorino stressed that the common goal is to work for people to be able to move safely and to be empowered to contribute to the various aspects of life.

Morocco advocated, on this occasion, for a common response to migratory flows that is “humane, informed, proactive and based on development aid.”
