A Peruvian deputy has confirmed Morocco cancelled a donation of 150,000 tons of fertilizer products intended for the Latin American country.

A measure taken in response to Peruvian President Pedro Castillo’s the recognition of the separatist polisario entity on September 15.

Peruvian deputy Jose Cueto of the Popular Renovation party confirmed the news in statements to a local media, more recently during an interview with Karina Novoa for the ‘Informamos y Opinamos’ program.

“The order was given to the Kingdom of Morocco and there was a ship that should arrive with 50,000 tons, and another that was on its way to Callao at the end of September,” he stated.

“A goodwill agreement was signed for the support that Morocco was going to give us in the face of the crisis that this government was generating with the failed purchases of fertilizers.”

“Morocco, which is one of the main producers offered, not only offered (but) immediately executed the initial shipment of 150 thousand tons of urea, fertilizers for us. The order was given in the Kingdom of Morocco and there was a ship that was arriving with the first 50 thousand, or almost 50 thousand tons, and a ship that was on its way to arrive in Callao at the end of September”, stated Cueto.”

The legislator specified that “days before” the delivery is concretized, the relations with “this phantom Republic” were re-established and Morocco made the decision to return said vessel.

Back on August 26, a correspondence between the former Peruvian Minister of Agricultural Development, Andrés Alencastre, and his former colleague in Foreign Affairs, Miguel Rodriguez Mackay, reported the Moroccan donation.

Parliamentarian Cueto said that the decision taken by the Peruvian president to restore relations with the polisario has turned everything upside down.

The ship carrying the first shipment of 50,000 “had to turn back.” The MP also reiterated the rejection of his formation to renew relations with “an entity that the UN does not recognize.

“A recognition that has absolutely no benefit to our country. Worse, it has created a serious conflict with another friendly country and several countries in the Arab world, starting with Morocco,” he added.
