Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra said his country does not “tolerate” any mediation in its “unequivocal,” rupture of relations with Morocco, he told official APS news agency.

He spoke after a visit by the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal Ben Farhan Ben Abdallah Al Saud, and claims that pointed out that the Saudi prince offered to mediate strained relations between Algeria and Morocco.

“The reasons that led to the decision to break relations with Morocco have not changed and Algeria’s position in this regard will not change either,” a diplomatic source told the TSA. He told the agency that discussions with the Saudi foreign minister did not include talks on Morocco.

Algeria severed ties with Morocco in August 2021 after the US recognized the Moroccaness of contested Western Sahara?

Algeria supports the Polisario Front in its dispute with Morocco over the status of Western Sahara.

Algeria opposes the Autonomy Plan proposed by Morocco, while the Moroccan initiative is gaining further international support, mainly from Spain and the U.S.

For its part, Algeria expressed its frustration with the new position of Spain by summoning its ambassador to Madrid and threatening to cut gas flow to the Iberian country.
