Four individuals were brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Casablanca Court of Appeal this Tuesday, April 5, for alleged links to a criminal network active in human organ trafficking.

In coordination with the services of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), officers of the National Bureau for the Fight against Illegal Immigration, part of the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ), began field investigations and technical investigations following an advertisement published on social networks.

The post offered “services of organ removal,” precisely kidneys, in private clinics abroad, in return for large sums of money in foreign currency, said the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.

The judicial investigation led to the arrest of four individuals, including three women, for their alleged involvement in the transfer of people abroad and mediating the trafficking of human organs.

The investigations also identified two of the victims who had sold their kidneys in Turkey, in addition to revealing that the criminal network furthered its exploitation of the victims by making them transport drugs.

The gang had links with a criminal network operating outside of Morocco, consisting of foreign nationals involved in the harvesting and sale of human organs.

Searches conducted by the BNPJ resulted in the seizure of sums of money in national and foreign currencies, receipts of foreign transfers, blood group tests of potential victims, as well as quantities of chira drug and cell phones, which were submitted for technical expertise.

The suspects were taken into custody for the purposes of the investigation ordered by the competent prosecutor.

The search operations and coordination with the Interpol office in Ankara, Turkey, are continuing and arrests are underway for both Moroccan and foreign suspects involved in these criminal acts.
