The Moroccan Government Council approved on February 3, three draft decrees creating new courts in southern Moroccan territories.

Headed by Chief of Government Aziz Akhannouch, the meeting resulted in approval for the upcoming creation of a court of appeals in the city of Dakhla, and two commercial and administrative courts in the cities of Laayoune and Dakhla. Both proposed decrees were submitted by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi.

Government spokesman, Mustapha Baitas, said during a press conference after the meeting that the government intends to create the aforementioned courts, within the framework of the new vision for managing the judicial map of the Kingdom.

This plan comes to reinforce royal directives to ease access to the judicial across the country for all citizens, as part of a larger justice system reform.

Bringing judiciary facilities closer to citizens in all parts of the Kingdom, benefiting from judicial services on an equal footing, and facilitating access to justice regardless of their proximity or distance from the center of the country are among the highlights of the organizational reform of the judicial system.

Baitas also indicated that the creation of these courts is part of the development of the southern provinces of the Kingdom, in the implementation of the strategy of the new development model for these regions.

The existence of judicial infrastructure, especially in the field of specialized commercial justice, will allow the region to keep pace with the multiplication of investments and projects in the provinces.
