The First Instance Criminal Chamber of the Marrakesh Court of Appeals acquitted a new suspect in the “la Creme” cafe shooting case, this Tuesday, January 4.
The newly charged suspect was arrested in Spain last week and was swiftly extradited to Morocco. National authorities kept him in detention in the Oudaya prison in Marrakesh.
The person in question was acquitted during the first session of his trial, which was organized to coincide with the trial of other defendants in the case, dating back to 2017.
In July of 2019, the court issued a death sentence to the main Dutch defendants, as part of the criminal operation that targeted and eventually killed an individual in the cafe.
The Criminal Chamber of the First Instance of the same court also sentenced the owner of the cafe to 15 years in prison, while sentencing his cousin to 8 years. Meanwhile, the main perpetrators, the two Dutch hitmen, were each sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Three other accomplices to the shooting in “La Creme” each received a two-month suspended prison sentence.
