The president of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, confirmed in a speech at the general assembly of CAF this morning in Cairo, that Cameroon will host the finals of the African Nations Cup.
Motsepe said he appreciates Cameroon’s commitment and passion for CAN, he said, adding, “I’ve visited Cameroon before, and things are 95% ready, that’s why we would like to show to the whole world this African country’s hospitality.”
The South African president concluded his speech by saying “see you in Cameroon.”
The 33rd edition of the competition is set to take place starting January 9 to February 6 in Cameroon with the participation of Morocco, part of group C, alongside Ghana, Comoros, and Gabon.
During today’s General Assembly, CAF members agreed on adopting the decision of the International Football Association to carry out a feasibility study in order to organize the World Cup every two years, instead of 4.
A majority of CAF members voted as well to support the creation of the African Super League, headed by the Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya.
The African Super League is considered by CAF members as a potential for many advantages, including raising the competition to higher levels and contributing to television broadcasting’s revenues, aiming to develop football infrastructure in the continent.
