Three candidates have applied for the presidency of Rabat’s mayor, including Asmaa Rhlalou of RNI, Badia Bennani of PJD, and Hassan Lachgar, son of the Secretay-general of USFP, Driss Lachgar.
After the publication of the results, the RNI was the leading party, followed by PAM and PI, scoring the highest voter turnout in the September 8 elections.
The three parties stressed that “the September 8 elections gave a new path of democracy in the country, whereby all political actors can contribute in creating a new breath to the political life through promoting the freedom of expression.”
These three parties created a coalition to form the majority as well as avoiding conflicts, seeking to complete this path while taking into account citizens’ voices in order to serve the public interest.
This trio began distributing ministerial portfolios in the second round of consultations, also, among the steps they follow, an objective of ensuring the distribution of responsibilities within the governing bodies of the councils of Rabat- Sale-Kenitra.
According to the provisional results, RNI, PAM, and PI have a majority with more than 42 seats out of a total of 81, while the PJD and USFP won 8 seats each in the city council.
