The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has suspended all Copa del Rey and Copa de la Reina matches scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, following the reported death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel.
In a statement, the federation said the decision affected first-round Copa del Rey fixtures and third-round Copa de la Reina matches, as Spanish football mourned the player’s death.
The official presentation of Spain’s under-21 international fixture against Japan, scheduled in Almendralejo, was also canceled.
The RFEF said the suspensions were intended as a gesture of respect and solidarity with the player’s family, teammates and supporters.
The federation added that revised schedules and new dates for the postponed fixtures would be announced in the coming days.
The announcement follows earlier disruptions to Spanish cup competitions after a serious railway accident in Urda, in the province of Toledo.
