Morocco’s opposition National Rally of Independents (RNI) accused Prime Minister Fatima Zahra Mansouri’s government Wednesday of presenting itself as a break from its predecessor while continuing many of the same policies in its proposed 2027 budget.
Speaking during a House of Representatives Finance Committee meeting, RNI parliamentary group leader Yassine Okacha said the government’s claims of political change contradicted its continued implementation of social protection programs, income tax reforms, wage increases and education and healthcare initiatives launched under the previous administration.
Okacha criticized what he described as the government’s attempt to portray earlier economic policies as prioritizing profits over social justice.
“Morocco does not need to revive ideological battles from the era of kolkhozes and sovkhozes,” he said, referring to Soviet-era collective and state farms.
He warned against creating an artificial confrontation between businesses and the state in the name of social justice.
The RNI also questioned whether the MAD 62 billion presented as a major social commitment in the budget represented genuinely new spending or a repackaging of existing programs.
Okacha accused the government of postponing key promises on purchasing power, employment and incomes until 2031, despite campaigning on immediate improvements.
He said the opposition would judge the government by its budgetary choices and results rather than its political rhetoric.
