A man accused of posing as a judge in Casablanca has been jailed pending trial on charges of impersonating a public official, forgery and fraud.
The suspect appeared before the King’s prosecutor at the Ain Sebaa Court of First Instance after his police custody was extended. He was then ordered held at the Ain Sebaa local prison, known as Oukacha, and referred for trial later that day, sources told Hespress AR.
Police arrested the man Tuesday after discovering an apartment room he had turned into a fake judge’s office, complete with legal books, a judge’s robe and a purported appointment order.
The suspect allegedly used the setup to convince victims he worked in the judiciary and could secure acquittals or reduced sentences at the Ain Sebaa criminal court.
According to Hespress sources, the man had previously completed an internship at the court in 2021, which gave him familiarity with its procedures and operations.
He allegedly used that experience to support his claims, telling victims he held a judicial post that did not require him to attend hearings.
The suspect had failed to secure a job in the judiciary, the sources said. The allegations against him remain subject to court proceedings.
