A project to establish a new political party explicitly identifying with the Moroccan right has moved into its organizational phase after attracting about 400 people interested in joining, according to its preparatory committee.
The proposed Moroccan Right Party is now setting up regional councils, working groups and a central structure as its founders work toward completing the legal requirements for establishing a political party.
Khalid Ishaq, a member of the founding committee, said the initiative seeks to develop a specifically Moroccan conservative-right model rather than reproduce European right-wing movements.
He said the project defines itself as nationally conservative on questions of identity, culture, religion and national institutions, while advocating a liberal economic model centered on market competition, individual initiative and private enterprise.
The proposed party nevertheless envisages a continuing regulatory role for the state. Ishaq said public assistance should be targeted according to studies and clearly defined conditions, while wage growth and support for low-income households should accompany stronger economic growth.
The committee is also developing what Ishaq described as a political conception of the “Moroccan individual,” combining access to health, education and adequate living standards with cultural identity and a sense of national belonging.
Organizers say around 400 people have so far expressed preliminary interest in joining or supporting the initiative. The group is now working on regional structures, coordination cells, a central council and a leadership body that would eventually represent the project publicly.
The initiative remains a party project rather than a legally constituted political party. Morocco’s Organic Law 29.11 sets formal procedures for creating parties and bars their establishment on religious, linguistic, ethnic or regional grounds, as well as on bases contrary to constitutional principles, democratic foundations or national and territorial unity.
Ishaq said the next phase will focus on completing the membership and procedural requirements necessary for formal establishment while expanding public support for an explicitly right-wing political platform.
The founders argue that such a project could distinguish itself in a party system they see as increasingly marked by overlapping political references and programs.
