Morocco’s National Rally of Independents accused governing coalition partner the Authenticity and Modernity Party of pressuring lawmakers and elected officials to defect before the September 23 election, threatening possible legal action.
The RNI political bureau said Tuesday that repeated attempts to recruit its members breached political ethics and rules intended to ensure fair electoral competition.
Its official statement identified eight figures who had either been announced as RNI candidates or continued to hold elected positions under its banner before moving toward PAM.
The RNI also cited party switching in the Dakhla region and said recruitment efforts had extended to one member of its political bureau.
The party argued that the number and similarity of the cases meant they could no longer be treated as isolated political transfers.
The dispute exposes growing competition between two parties that have governed together since 2021 but will contest the coming election separately.
The RNI said it would not retaliate through similar recruitment tactics but reserved the right to use legal procedures to protect its organization and candidates.
