Hakimi injury leaves Morocco waiting ahead of AFCON qualifiers

Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi is awaiting medical tests after leaving Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-0 win at Brest before halftime Sunday with an apparent right adductor injury, putting his availability for PSG and Morocco’s coming fixtures in doubt.

PSG coach Luis Enrique said after the match that doctors would determine the extent of the injury. Hakimi is now a doubt for Sunday’s Ligue 1 game against Marseille.

The timing also leaves Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi waiting for an assessment before announcing his squad Thursday for the opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Morocco hosts Gabon on September 25 at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat before facing Lesotho on September 29 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. Hakimi’s availability for those matches will depend on the diagnosis and expected recovery period.
