Tomato, potato and pepper prices could rise in Morocco in the coming days as weather damage and a seasonal production gap reduce supplies, industry representatives said.

Mohamed Zemrani, who heads a Moroccan exporters’ association, cited flooding in the Gharb region and declining availability at markets including Inezgane. Tomato and potato exports to African markets remain suspended, he said, despite continued pressure on domestic prices.

Abderrazak Chabi, president of Casablanca’s wholesale fruit and vegetable traders’ association, explained that supplies typically dip between mid-July and mid-September as the Souss growing season ends.

Produce from areas around Casablanca helps bridge the gap but cannot fully meet demand, he said.

Chabi called for export quotas based on assessments of domestic needs, while Zemrani urged restrictions on vegetables whose prices were rising.

Fruit supplies in Casablanca remain steady, Chabi added, as incoming seasonal varieties replace summer produce reaching the end of its season at the market.
