Spanish Football Federation President Rafael Louzán has renewed Spain’s claim to host the 2030 World Cup final, saying staging the match elsewhere would “make no sense” as Morocco advances its competing bid.
Louzán said Spain had been central to the joint candidacy from its beginning with Portugal and represented 55% of the tournament’s organizational weight. He also cited the country’s football standing and experience hosting major events.
FIFA has not selected the final venue or announced the definitive distribution of matches among Morocco, Spain and Portugal. The governing body will make the final decision.
Spain’s leading candidates are Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu and Barcelona’s renovated Camp Nou. Morocco is promoting the Grand Stade Hassan II under construction in Benslimane, near Casablanca.
The Moroccan stadium is designed to hold about 115,000 spectators, giving it a larger planned capacity than either Spanish contender. Construction remains underway, while the Bernabéu is already operating following an extensive redevelopment.
Morocco, Spain and Portugal were formally appointed joint hosts in December 2024. Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will stage one centenary match each.
Louzán has repeatedly predicted that Spain will secure the final, but his statements reflect the Spanish federation’s position rather than a FIFA decision.
