Morocco’s new rugby coach, Bernard Goutta, praised King Mohammed VI’s vision for the development of sport and expressed his ambition to lead Morocco to its first-ever Rugby World Cup.
“There is a desire on the part of His Majesty the King to see Morocco shine on the international stage,” Goutta said in an interview with French website Ici.fr , highlighting the efforts made to support the country’s various national sports federations.
The French coach said he intends to use his tenure to build a sustainable sporting project, with “the primary objective” of qualifying Morocco for a Rugby World Cup. “Morocco has the means to achieve it,” he said.
Goutta, who said he feels “very proud” to be coaching the Moroccan national team, also plans to place a strong emphasis on developing and identifying young Moroccan talent.
“My role will therefore involve scouting our young players, particularly at the U20 level, who will be 24 in four years. They could be the ones competing for a place in the World Cup qualifying campaign,” he explained.
The French coach also said he was “impressed” by the sports infrastructure available in Morocco.
“There is already very high-quality infrastructure in place,” he said, describing the facilities as a solid foundation for bringing Moroccan players closer to the demands of international elite-level rugby.
