Morocco’s National Financial Intelligence Authority has opened inquiries after three casinos in Marrakech and Agadir filed suspicious-transaction reports concerning possible money laundering through poker games, sources told Hespress.

The alerts involved gamblers suspected of presenting funds of unknown origin as gambling winnings before depositing them into bank accounts.

Investigators are comparing declared winnings with game records and tracing transfers, purchases and commercial transactions.

They are also examining whether technical weaknesses were exploited to manipulate poker results and whether beneficiaries had links to people familiar with casino systems.

The inquiry draws on information from the Foreign Exchange Office and Interior Ministry, including cross-border transfers and accounts connected to people abroad.

Preliminary checks found that two people under review were also subject to financial monitoring procedures in Spain and European Union countries over suspected illegal gambling and casino-related money laundering, the sources said.
