Moroccans reported greater confidence in the country’s post-2011 direction even as fewer households could cover basic expenses, according to an August 2026 survey by Germany’s Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Eighty-one percent of Moroccan respondents said conditions had improved since the period before the Arab uprisings, the highest rate among the seven societies surveyed. The comparable figures were 68% in Egypt and 34% in Tunisia.

The result measures public perception, not independently verified political progress. The report said Moroccans may associate the post-2011 period with limited political reforms, economic growth, foreign investment and stability.

Institutional confidence was also high but varied by body. Ninety-five percent expressed trust in the police and local religious institutions, while 89% trusted the army and 84% the judiciary. Trust fell to 81% for the government, 66% for parliament and 56% for political parties.

Economic responses revealed a sharper contradiction. Sixty percent rated Morocco’s economy as good or very good, up from 39% in the foundation’s 2020 survey. Yet only 44% said household income covered expenses, down from 65% six years earlier.

The divergence suggests that positive views of the national economy have not translated into stronger household purchasing power. Comparisons with 2020 also require caution because the earlier survey was conducted during the COVID-19 disruption.

Expectations remained strong despite that pressure. Eighty-three percent of Moroccans expected the economy to improve over the next few years, second only to Syria’s 90%. Sixty-six percent also rated job availability positively.

Morocco recorded the survey’s highest favorable rating for the United States at 64%, up 15 percentage points from 2020.

The report suggested that Washington’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara may have contributed, but it did not establish causation. Favorability toward the United Arab Emirates rose 16 points to 79%, while Russia received 61%.

Support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was lower among people under 30 than among older Moroccans, with a 16-point generational gap. The same pattern appeared in every country surveyed.

Arab Research and Analytics Associates interviewed 8,475 people by telephone from May 8 to July 3, including about 1,200 in each of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, the Palestinian territories, Syria and Tunisia. The authors warned that the regional conflict with Iran could have encouraged respondents to emphasize security and national cohesion.
